Co-Creating an engaging and innovative Participation Guide
In 2018, Urban Foxes was contacted by the Educational Hybrid Design Institute KaosPilot, for a collaboration with different experts in the field of urban participation. Barcelona had started their journey to create over 100 Superblocks or "Superilla" in the Barcelona territory. It is probably one of the biggest urban interventions on this globe in the last 50 years. This project will intervene in the lives of hundreds of thousands of Barcelona residents, it is therefore from crucial importance that these people are actively involved in the whole process. Because of the vastness of this undertaking, it was necessary to create a participation guide that would serve as manual to start-up successful and engaging participation with the residents in the different areas that would be involved. In our contribution we shared our experience and emphasized the importance engaging, non-formal and inclusive ways of engaging citizens in co-creational city making. It is our belief that these methods can foster co-ownership to the city, as long as they aim to engage a broad coalition and include all stakeholders, especially the ofter forgotten ones, like vulnerable and neglected stakeholders such as children & youth. It was an honor to be part of this project as consultants, together with established experts such as Jan Gehl, and we will be following up this amazing project in the future.
